San Francisco Giants first baseman Rafael Devers joined exclusive company in franchise history Tuesday, reaching a home run mark achieved by Barry Bonds and Willie Mays.
Devers hit his 48th homer in his first 222 games with San Francisco. His 400-foot solo shot off Cincinnati Reds starter Brady Singer extended the Giants’ lead to 3-0 in the fifth inning of a 3-1 victory at Oracle Park.
The ball bounced into McCovey Cove, but the homer did not qualify as an official splash hit because it reached the water after landing.

NBC Sports Bay Area’s Alex Pavlovic cited a statistic supplied by Giants PR on X, formerly Twitter, after Tuesday’s game.
“Quite the stat from Giants PR: Rafael Devers became the third Giant to hit at least 48 homers in his first 222 games with the organization. The others? Barry Bonds and Willie Mays.”
The distinction covers home run production during a player’s first 222 games with the Giants. It does not include Devers’ totals with the Boston Red Sox or compare the three players’ complete careers.
Devers also hit a 427-foot, three-run homer Monday in San Francisco’s 5-0 victory over Cincinnati, giving him home runs on consecutive nights. Tuesday’s blast was his 28th of the season and his 16th at Oracle Park, the most by a Giants hitter there since Bonds recorded 16 in 2007.
San Francisco acquired Devers from Boston on June 15, 2025. He produced 20 home runs in 90 games for the Giants last season before adding 28 through Tuesday this year.
The Giants improved to 54-78 with their second straight win. Devers increased his season totals to 74 RBIs and an .802 OPS while moving within two home runs of 30.
